The Cure Kitchen & Bar

This is the first in a new set of blog posts. I’m a huge supporter of local businesses and want to showcase as many as I can. Today, I’m excited to feature The Cure Kitchen & Bar.

When it comes to creating a vibrant and welcoming space that contributes to the local community, The Cure Kitchen & Bar, situated in downtown Regina on 11th Avenue beside Vintage Vinyl, has set an inspiring example. The story of The Cure’s inception is one rooted in community and resilience. The business was born out of necessity when the owners took over The Artful Dodger and needed a new space due to the lease not being renewed. This transition provided an opportunity for the team to create something unique and magical for the people of Regina.

A unique aspect of The Cure is its name. When asked about its origin, it was revealed that it was conceived in when joking about what to call the new business. The name ‘The Cure’ stuck because it truly embodies what this place represents – a remedy for all of life’s ups and downs, a sanctuary of good times, and a respite from the ordinary.

The Cure is much more than just a kitchen and bar. It’s a vibrant community hub that offers a diverse range of products and services. From live music to open mic nights, from delectable food to a well-stocked bar, it is a one-stop destination for entertainment and socializing.

For The Cure, community engagement is not just a concept but a way of life. It hosts fundraisers, offers a stage for open mic nights, and features a kitchen serving mouthwatering dishes. These initiatives are a testament to their commitment to making a difference and creating a sense of belonging in the local community.

When asked, one of the owners revealed valuable advice to those looking to start a similar venture – passion should be the driving force. If you open a business solely for financial gain and recognition, you’re missing the point. Authenticity and dedication are keys to creating a space that resonates with people.

There are often surprises even for loyal customers. The night crowd might not be aware of the kitchen’s fantastic food, and the daytime patrons may miss the captivating entertainment. Such delightful discoveries keep the experience at The Cure fresh and exciting.

One particularly heartwarming anecdote shared is the unwavering support of their staff. After the challenging pandemic lockdowns, all the staff members returned, a testament to the great atmosphere and ownership. In appreciation, the owners took their team to Mexico the following year as a token of their gratitude.

Running a business, no matter how beloved, comes with its share of challenges. For The Cure, it’s the inevitable maintenance issues and the sacrifices that need to be made. As for future plans, The Cure’s direction may be influenced by the city’s decision on the location of a new stadium, which is approximately five years down the road.

The Cure is dedicated to supporting local suppliers and keeping a connection with the community. They proudly serve beverages from local breweries and partner with businesses such as Bone & Broth on Scarth St. Their non-alcoholic drinks are made with Alchomy Oak, another local product.

The Cure keeps its finger on the pulse of current trends by pioneering ideas that often get adopted by other businesses in the downtown area.

When asked about local spots and activities to enjoy, The Cure’s owners recommended various places, depending on the night and mood. Some of their suggestions include The Fat Badger, Lancaster, O’Hanlon’s, and Victoria’s Tavern. They actively encourage patrons to explore downtown Regina and support local businesses. Regina’s downtown businesses operate like a close-knit family. Everyone knows each other, and they work together to create a vibrant and supportive local community.

The Cure Kitchen & Bar isn’t just a place to grab a drink, bite to eat or see local and independent entertainment; it’s a community treasure and a testament to the enduring spirit of camaraderie in Regina. The passion, dedication, and unwavering commitment of its owners have transformed it into a creative hub of the city, leaving a mark on all who walk through its doors.
