Shannon’s Pub
Before diving into the actual review, let me share a little story. When STC (presumably a venue or event) closed its doors, my concert-going options were somewhat limited, and I found myself gravitating toward Alley Dawgs shows. During these visits, I often had the pleasure of sitting beside an older indigenous gentleman who introduced himself as Erroll. Our conversations, which took place in the brief pauses between songs, always left me captivated by his storytelling.
On one memorable occasion at an Alley Dawgs performance, I attended with a friend. Erroll approached me and exchanged greetings before moving on after some quick small talk. My friend, clearly intrigued, asked if I knew who that man was. Puzzled, I responded, “It’s Erroll. He always talks to me.” My friend then whipped out their phone and showed me a Google search result for Erroll Kinistino. It turns out Erroll was an actor known for appearing in popular shows like Corner Gas and North of 60—a revelation that added a new layer of fascination to our chance encounters.
Subsequently, I had the pleasure of meeting Erroll’s partner, Josie, again at Alley Dawgs shows. They often joined the Alley Dawgs onstage, and I even caught Erroll and Josie performing at open mic events. I attended a few of their standalone shows as well. Given my recent move to Regina almost three years ago, this particular show at Shannon’s Pub seemed like the perfect opportunity to reignite my live music experiences.
The band, officially known as Erroll Kinistino & The Dog River Band, comprises Erroll and Josie, with Greg Campeau on bass and later transitioning to guitar. Darcey Labelle takes command of the drums, and although there was another guitarist in the mix, their name escapes me.
During the first set, Erroll and Josie alternated singing a range of songs, including classics like “Another Brick In The Wall,” “Carmelita,” “I Fall To Pieces,” and “Working Man’s Blues.” In the second set, the musical dynamic shifted as Greg took the lead, performing a mix of his own compositions and cover songs.
Although I left after the second set, I can confidently say that it was a fantastic show. This experience has reminded me of the need to attend more shows at Shannon’s Pub in the future.
